Iwata Set to Join Scottish Champions in January

Deal Subject to Work Permit Approval

Celtic FC and Yokohama F. Marinos have agreed on a deal for the transfer of midfielder Tomoki Iwata, the Scottish club announced on Monday. The 25-year-old Japan international is set to join the Scottish Premiership champions in January, subject to receiving a work permit. Iwata has been a key player for Yokohama F. Marinos since joining the club in 2019, helping them win the J1 League title in 2022. He has also been capped 10 times by Japan, making his debut in 2021. Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said he was delighted to sign Iwata, describing him as a "quality player" who will add "depth and creativity" to his squad. "Tomoki is a player I have been tracking for some time now, and I am very pleased that we have been able to bring him to Celtic," Postecoglou said. "He is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions in midfield, and he has a good eye for goal. I am sure he will be a valuable addition to our squad." Iwata said he was excited to join Celtic and was looking forward to playing in the Scottish Premiership. "I am very happy to be joining Celtic," Iwata said. "It is a big club with a great history, and I am looking forward to playing in front of the Celtic fans. I am confident that I can help the team achieve success." The transfer fee for Iwata is undisclosed, but it is believed to be in the region of £1 million. Iwata is Celtic's second signing of the January transfer window, following the arrival of defender Yuki Kobayashi from Vissel Kobe.
