Buran Voronezh Takes Commanding Lead in VHL Western Conference
Buran Voronezh extended its winning streak to four games with a 5-2 victory over visiting HC Ryazan on Wednesday, March 15. The win gives Buran a commanding lead atop the VHL Western Conference standings with a 9-2-1 record.
Buran got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first period. Artur Gavrus opened the scoring just 2:43 into the game, and Ilya Krikunov doubled the lead with a power-play goal at 12:32.
Ryazan cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Ivan Vereshchagin early in the second period, but Buran answered back with two more goals from Gavrus and Daniil Vovchenko to take a 4-1 lead.
Khimik Voskresensk Rallies Past Dynamo Krasnogorsk to Stay in Playoff Hunt
Khimik Voskresensk kept its playoff hopes alive with a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Dynamo Krasnogorsk on Tuesday, March 14.
Khimik fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but rallied with four unanswered goals to earn the victory.
Nikita Filatov got Khimik on the board with a power-play goal at 18:51 of the first period. Andrei Ivanov tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at 10:20 of the second period, and Vladislav Mikhalchuk gave Khimik the lead for good with a goal at 15:30 of the third period.
The win moves Khimik into eighth place in the VHL Western Conference standings with a 6-6-1 record. The top eight teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs.
Voronezh, Khimik Set for Key Clash on Friday
Buran Voronezh and Khimik Voskresensk will face off in a key game on Friday, March 17, with both teams looking to solidify their playoff positions.
Buran is currently in first place in the Western Conference with a 9-2-1 record, while Khimik is in eighth place with a 6-6-1 record.
The game will be played at the Buran Arena in Voronezh, Russia.
