Manchin A Key Swing Vote In The Senate Has Been A Vocal Critic Of Democrats Agenda

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin Says He Won't Run for President

Manchin, a key swing vote in the Senate, has been a vocal critic of Democrats' agenda

The West Virginia Democrat said he is instead focused on working to find "common ground"

WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a key swing vote in the Senate, said Sunday that he will not run for president in 2024 and will instead focus on working to find "common ground" in the Senate.

Manchin's decision is a blow to Democrats, who had hoped to draft him into the race to challenge former President Donald Trump. Manchin has been a vocal critic of Democrats' agenda, and his departure from the race would make it more difficult for the party to win back the White House.

In a statement, Manchin said that he had "prayed" about the decision and that he had come to the conclusion that he could best serve the people of West Virginia by staying in the Senate.

"I have always believed that I can be more effective in the Senate, where I can work with both parties to find common ground and deliver results for the people of West Virginia," Manchin said.
