Russell beats Hamilton to Silverstone pole

Wolff leads Mercedes one-two in FP3

George Russell will start the 2024 British Grand Prix on pole position after beating team-mate Lewis Hamilton to top spot in qualifying at Silverstone.

Russell set a time of 1:27.948 on his final lap to finish 0.173 seconds clear of Hamilton.

It is Russell's first pole position of the 2024 season and the fifth of his career.

Hamilton will start alongside Russell on the front row, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen third.

Verstappen was 0.307 seconds off the pace of Russell, with team-mate Sergio Perez fourth.

Carlos Sainz Jr. was fifth for Ferrari, ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc.

Fernando Alonso was seventh for Aston Martin, ahead of Lando Norris in the other McLaren.

Alpine's Esteban Ocon and AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly completed the top 10.

The 2024 British Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, 7 July.
